We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer with a passion for building quality software with automation in mind from the onset. The stack is JavaScript so a deep understanding of that is required plus a good Full Stack knowledge including Back End technologies, databases and exposure to the Cloud (GCP/AWS). You will report into a Senior Engineering Manager. While your day to day is around improving your squad this is also about helping to improve the wider tribe and department
Content technology and innovation
Our Content Technology and Innovation team delivers high-quality content to homes, customer devices, businesses and commercial partners across our European markets. With over 2500 colleagues from around the world, we combine our strategic insights, engineering know-how and operational excellence to use the most innovative technologies to create and distribute our award-winning content.
What you'll do:
  • Lead an energetic and driven squad at the forefront of Advertising Technology at Sky on Sky Analytics and potentially other business critical applications.
  • Build great software on JavaScript
  • Create feeds from a variety of internal and external data sources on GCP using Python
  • Champion TDD and Clean Code practices across the team
  • Work with Back End Languages such as Node.js
  • Integrate with 3rd party APIs, datasources in GCP and on-premise databases
  • Work closely with customers in an Agile environment to improve the product
  • Recommend and drive best practises and tools and share knowledge with the team
  • Recommend and drive best practices in improving techniques and processes towards CD
  • Line management responsibility for Engineers within your squad. More than that though you will mentor and coach them in a collaborative and supportive manner.
What you'll bring:
You will have some leadership experience in team or be a senior engineer ready to make that next step. Some of the things we are looking for you to bring:
  • Experience with agile methodologies, ways of working and practices such as Scrum or the 'Spotify Model'.
  • Have a strong Full Stack background in JavaScript. With Angular on the Front End & Node on the Back End
  • Experience with Python especially on data projects is a bonus.
  • Comfortable breaking down large, undefined problems into smaller solvable ones.
  • You know how to write readable, testable and maintainable code and help others do the same
  • Keep improving the CI/CD process
  • Familiarity with IaC for at least one public cloud provider, preferably GCP. Experience with data pipeline and serverless solutions for GCP is a bonus
  • Enjoy helping to grow individuals in a cross functional team.
  • A growth mindset that constantly challenges how we deliver today
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Containerization would be beneficial

Our Osterley Campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Gunnersbury, Ealing Broadway and South Ealing tube stations. There are also plenty of bike shelters and showers.
